Domains
Searches in IATE may produce many results. Use subject codes to focus your search, e.g.: a search on the word 'net' will include terms such as 'safety net' or 'net interest', whereas the same search with the subject code 'AGRICULTURE, FORESTRY AND FISHERIES' would produce the word 'net' in a fisheries context.
|
|
You can specify a domain to restrict your query. |
The IATE domain classification system is based on the Eurovoc thesaurus.
Type of Search
Terms in IATE are classified as “term” and “abbreviation”. You can use this distinction to focus your query. This is especially interesting if you are trying to find a translation for an abbreviation.
“Term” has to be considered broadly: it will include terms, group of terms, sentences and formulas.

The hit list displays the matching term(s) and the terms in the target languages you have specified. The matching term is highlighted in the hit list. Note: in this example, the Spanish term carbono was
searched in German and French. The last item shows the term ‘C’ in MUL (for
multilingual). MUL is used when a term is common to all languages. |

Besides the actual terms, the domain information, the name
of the institution or agency that created the entry and the IATE entry ID,
the hit list also contains icons that indicate the existence of additional
